The Icelandic state took control of the Icelandic bank Kaupthing, the country's first bank.
This was announced today, the Authority Iceland (Fme).
"The authority Icelandic, in accordance with the powers accordatigli by the Icelandic parliament, took control of Kaupthing to maintain the continuity of commercial banking operations in Iceland," reads the statement of authority.
Kaupthing was the only major bank in Iceland remained independent after the government in an effort to save the other two largest banks, Landsbanki was nationalized and put Glitnir into receivership.
